Are you the one who is living in a dream of achieving the dreamy, juicy lips, but without that painful treatment, ughh, why are they so painful in real and for the pocket also?
When I was 20, I had the urge to get my dreamy lips, so without even a thought, I moved to get my fillers done. They are a little heavy on my pocket, but I wanted them so madly, and my excitement got me to do it. But I was so wrong here.
The lips of my dreams weren’t supposed to look too huge and swollen for days, stay decent just for a couple of weeks, and then? vanished, A BIG NO. And the pain was not even worth the stay, like just 3-4 weeks? Are you kidding me?
But here’s the truth nobody really tells you that while fillers are often marketed as lasting 6–12 months, many people report noticeable fading within a few months. At the very best, they can stay only 3-4 good months. At first, I was so scared even to face the mirror, but yeah, they got settled after 7 days, and I thought yes now I have been living in my dream lips era. But nope, they got so much faded in a few weeks. It felt so scammed.
That’s when I thought not to invest in my lips, why? They are naturally pretty, just work on the appearance and texture. I started finding ways I can naturally make my lips plumper and juicier. And guess what? They worked too. They are so simple, fast, and cost nothing.
If you are also tired of paying endless amounts for expensive treatments that are not even worthy and if your goal is also to know how to get juicy lips at home, you are at the right place. By the end of this blog, you’ll get to know the hacks to get juicy lips naturally or with makeup at home.
Why Fillers Aren’t Worth it?
Okay, let’s break down…
Fillers look great….uhmmm, for only about a couple of weeks. Then? They fade, and you are rushing to book and pay for the next session. They are like a subscription that you have to upgrade every 3 months.
They’re temporary. So when they dissolve, your lips can even look saggy and can change your face, too.
Natural methods shared in this blog aren’t permanent also- but neither are fillers! The difference is-
Fillers come with never-ending bills and extra aftercare. And the hacks shared in this post are literally free and can be done anytime at home. Easy?
Let’s Dig In The Ways That Require Zero Needle And Real Results
And the best part?
- Beginner-friendly
- So cheap
- Zero Pain
Before running to Sephora for a $100 lip plumper, try these…
1. Exfoliate Gently (2-3x A Week)
Your lips naturally shed dead skin, but sometimes it builds up too. That makes your lips so flat and dull. By exfoliating it, you can actually remove dead skin cells, which increases blood flow, making lips look naturally fuller. There are many ways you can actually use to exfoliate at home-
A) Sugar & Oil
Sugar and oil are the best combo for lip exfoliation, as sugar is made of tiny crystals that attract moisture; it’s a kind of sweet exfoliation, doesn’t it? On the other hand, oil nourishes your lips from the inside.
How to do it:
- Mix 1tsp sugar (brown or white doesn’t matter) with 1/2 tsp honey
- Rub on lips in small circles for 30-60 sec
- Rinse off with lukewarm water
Boom, the lip glowup is actually done. I do this on alternatives day, but someday if I don’t really have time to get into this, then I use COLLEEN ROTHSCHILD Sugar Lip Scrub from AMAZON. This one contains brown sugar, gently exfoliates my lips, and improves the texture like a pillow. Also nourishes and protects my lips.
Honestly, even if I had all the money in the world, I’d still use this one.
B) Toothbrush Method
This seems a little harsh, but trust me, it is not (if done the right way). A soft-bristle toothbrush, when lightly brushes off the lips, actually removes the dead skin sitting on the surface of your lips.
Once it’s done, your lips will reflect the light better, making them look plumper instantly.
How to do it:
- Use a clean, soft toothbrush
- Lightly dampen it with water
- Brush lips in small circular motions
- Do it for 20-30 seconds only, not more than this
- Immediately apply lip balm, oil, or honey
You can also use toothpaste on a toothbrush. Based on personal experience, it makes my lips look so soft, like baby-soft, instantly. It really shocked me with the results, it’s a chef’s kiss for me.
C) DIY Coffee Scrub
This is the internet’s viral scrub. Coffee has fine particles that gently scrub away all the dead skin and rough patches.
It contains caffeine, which stimulates blood flow when massaged on the lips. This causes a natural pink flush on the lips and a slight fullness ( which looks so natural and IT girl)
DIY Coffee Lip Scrub:
- 1 teaspoon finely ground coffee
- 1 teaspoon coconut oil or honey
- Mix it up
How to do it:
- Apply to clean lips
- Massage gently in circular motions for 30 seconds
- Rinse with lukewarm water
- Apply lip balm or oil immediately
How Often To Exfoliate
- The sweet spot is 2-3 times a week. That’s enough to remove dead skin and boost circulation without irritating lips.
- If your lips are super sensitive, even once or twice a week is totally fine.
2. Honey Overnight Mask
Honey is basically a natural lip treatment with just one ingredient. It has natural humectants that pull moisture from the air into your lips. Cool enough. It has antibacterial properties that help heal cracked or irritated lips. That’s why honey has been used for skin healing for centuries.
What does a honey overnight mask do for lips?
It provides deep hydration, honey attracts and holds moisture, making your lips look so juicy and hydrated for hours, so no worries of applying lip balm every 30 minutes.
It helps in the healing of microcracks and makes the area of the lips so smooth and juicy. Hydrated lips naturally look plumper and softer. It makes the lip look more pinkish and alive instead of dull and pale.
Start with clean lips, apply a thin and even layer of honey. Make sure you do it at night to gain the maximum benefit from it. The best part? You can do it daily, and this is my best life-saver hack for lips.
You will actually find your lips soft, smooth, plump, and glossy the next morning.
3. Ice Therapy For Instant Plumpness
Ice therapy is a cold exposure technique often used to increase the blood flow in the lips. It makes your lips feel numb and makes them naturally flushed, fuller, and juicier.
Cold also helps calm inflammation and reduce a kind of swelling, and evens the tone of the lips. The perfect time to do this is before makeup. How to do ice therapy properly. This is very important.
Method 1
- Take one ice cube
- Wrap it in a clean cloth or tissue
- Gently press or glide over lips
- Keep moving, don’t hold in one spot for too long
- Do it for like max 30-40 sec (enough)
Method 2
- Put a metal spoon in the freezer for 5-10 minutes
- Press the back of the spoon lightly on the lips
- This is ideal if you have sensitive lips
Right after this, apply a gloss or balm. This is a kind of temporary effect, but it really soothes your lips and gives instant plumpness.
4. Daily Lip Massage
Daily lip massage is the practice of gently massaging your lips with your fingers or a tool to stimulate blood flow, relax the muscles around the mouth, and improve overall lip health.
If your lips are too thin and dry, then you need this right now. Massaging the lips increases the blood circulation gives the lips instant plumpness, a healthier, natural pink look, and a fuller appearance.
You don’t have to buy a $100 luxury lip oil for this. Some oils like coconut oil, almond oil, and shea butter actually work the same (almost).
Daily massaging encourages the active repair of damaged skin tissue. Now, how to do this-
- Start with clean lips
- Apply a small amount of oil and balm
- Use the ring finger and massage in small circular motions
- Cover areas- upper lip, lower lip, and corners of the mouth
- Massage for like good 1-2 minutes
Best Oils For Lip Massage And Why They Matter
- Coconut oil for if you want deep hydration
- Almond oil, if you want softer lips
- Castor oil, if you have extremely dry lips
- Vitamin E oil, if your goal is to strengthen the lips
The best time to do this is at night before bed.
5. Toothpaste Hack
Can a toothpaste make your lips look plumper and juicier? Let’s talk, beauty experts recommend applying a layer of toothpaste on your lips for about 60 seconds and then wiping it off, but does it really work?
My personal recommendation- yes❤️, it works great for me. Toothpaste contains ingredients like Menthol, peppermint and sometimes cinnamon, and when you apply toothpaste to your lips, your lips feel tingling and burning sensations. That swelling gives the illusion of plumpness
Right after removing, your lips look pinker and more defined. It makes my lips so soft, like baby soft i can’t even stop obsessing over it from the day I tried it.
But don’t overuse it. Regular use can dry out your lips and can damage the lip barrier, causing sensitive lips.
6. Overnight Lip Treatment
An overnight lip treatment is anything you apply to your lips before sleeping that works for hours while your body is in repair mode. At night, there is a high chance of lips losing moisture because of AC cooling and dehydration.
For that, nighttime lip treatment is best suited available option. It provides 12 hours of constant hydration. And secondly, it works great because whatever you put on your lips at night works deeper and longer than daytime balm. Kind of a therapy yah!
During sleep, lips can dehydrate badly if left bare. Overnight treatment:
- Prevent water loss
- Heals micro-cracks
- Restores softness by morning
You can notice some people who only use balm all day but not at night wake up with dry lips even after using lip balm every day. Hydrated lips always look fuller, smoother, and healthier.
My Favourite Overnight Lip Treatment
Sehaj’s Beauty Pick –
Currently, I’m using Laneige Bouncy and Firm Lip Treatment. The formula is so nice, so lightweight, it makes my lips so juicy, with a plump effect. It became my little before-bed ritual and genuinely helped me look more presentable!
If you had to pick one habit for better lips, this is it.
7. Lip Spf
Lip SPF is a sun-protective lip product designed specifically for the lips. It protects against UV rays that damage lip skin just like they damage your face, and sometimes even more. Shocking? Yes.
If your lips are in regular contact with the sun, then there is a higher chance that they can burn, darken, and age faster.
Why Lips Need SPF
1) Prevents lip darkening & pigmentation
Sun exposure is one of the biggest reasons lips become dark, uneven, and two-toned. Uv rays also stimulate pigmentation, but lip SPF is actually a lifesaver here-
- Blocks UV damage
- Prevents tanning
- Helps maintain natural pink tone
2) Slows down lip ageing
Yes, lips age too, but without SPF… Without SPF, fine lines appear faster on your lips, and your lips start losing softness and become rough. It is just like applying sunscreen daily to your face, so why skip your lips?
How lip SPF actually works
Lip SPF usually contains UV filters that absorb and reflect harmful UV rays and protect delicate lip skin from further damage. It also prevents inflammation and pigmentation, making your lips look younger, even-toned, and fuller.
How To Use Lip SPF Correctly
- Apply lip SPF as the last step of your morning routine
- Use a generous layer, not just one swipe and done
- Reapplication matters, yes (don’t skip this). Reapply every 2-3 hours after eating or drinking, and yes, even if it’s cloudy outside.
How To Use Lip SPF With Lipstick Or Gloss
It is easy. Listen, apply lip SPF first and let it settle down for 1 minute, and then apply your favourite lipstick or gloss on top, or make it even easier, choose a lipstick or blam with built-in SPF for convenience.
8. Smile More
Let’s talk about how smiling more can make your lips look juicier, and how it connects to everything we’ve been discussing. Nobody talks about this because it seems to be so dramatic. After all, you don’t need any product, it’s just a simple hack.
Smiling is a low-key energy that changes your whole lip energy and aura. There is an actual science behind this, which is why your lips look better when you smile. Okay, let me explain.
Your lips are super thin and packed with blood vessels, and connected to your facial muscles, so if you do anything to increase your blood flow, it really shows up on your lips.
When you smile, even softly, you activate all the muscles around your mouth. More blood flow means a flushed colour and natural fullness of the lips. Now, how can you increase the blood flow- smile baby, smile.
If you were like me, who also didn’t believe this at first until I tried and noticed. There was a phase where I was stressed, quiet and upset, and always clenching my jaw in anxiety. I have noticed dull lips, like it’s not even mine. Smiling more also throws a good impression and a kind of fuller illusion to your lips.
9. Teeth Look Is Important
This is one of those things you don’t notice until you notice it, and now you can’t unsee it anymore, understood? Okay, let’s discuss. Your lips sit on the top of your teeth its like your teeth are a support system for your lips.
When it’s about teeth hygiene, your smile becomes more natural, like you feel more confident and comfortable smiling and your lips don’t stay pressed together like wowww.
When you smile, and your teeth are visible, the cupid’s bow lifts, the corners of the mouth rise, and the upper lip rolls slightly outward, and then cutie? It creates a visual fullness effect. Woow yeahh!
10. Hydrate Like A Boss
If you want your lips to look juicier and plumper, make sure that you’re drinking plenty of water. Dehydration sucks the moisture out of your lips, and then they look like chappy flated one.
At least aim to drink two litres of water a day to keep your lips looking bigger and more youthful. Water helps maintain collagen function and support skin elasticity.
11. Avoid Habits That Make Your Lips Look Dry & Dull
Honestly, I’m not judging, but here are the habits you have to avoid if you want soft, juicy lips.
- Biting or picking at lip skin
- Skipping lip balm until lips feel dry
- Mouth breathing at night
- Using matte lipsticks daily
- Rubbing lips aggressively with towels
- Touching lips frequently
Makeup Hacks For Juicy Lips
If you don’t want to use lip plumpers or injections, you can still make your lips look bigger with the right makeup technique.
12. Overlining
Overlining is just a basic makeup technique to achieve those beautiful, cushion-soft lips. Our natural lips are flat, but when we overline them, it automatically creates the illusion of softness and fullness (but the right way only).
Back in 2020, when we got the trend of plumpy lips, I remember watching YouTube videos to see how I could achieve the beautiful lips with the right makeup technique, but ended up doing too much overlining that it made my lips look so weird, and then I’m standing in front of a mirror laughing for straight 2 hours (like a joker). Like, how can I think of going outside with this blunder? No way.
But the right technique is to only overline above the cupid’s bow and the centre of your bottom lip. Please don’t make the mistake I made by overlining the corners too, otherwise you will also end up laughing and looking like a joker.
Blending is important, blending melts into your lips and gives that perfect, natural flushed look, not those weird outward lips. and then complete it with a gloss. Note my girlies, if you are new to this technique, don’t leave it by making it too much, keep it obvious and natural.
13. Choose The Right Lip Combos
Everyone has their one or two perfectly favourite lip combos, and it takes me a hell of 1.5 years to figure out my shade, yes, my combo. Because the wrong combo can make lips look dry, thin or even harsh, like faded out.
This doesn’t mean that you need 10 different products (absolutely not), you just need the right shades that work better together. Okay, a lip combo is basically pairing the liner+Lipstik+gloss that perfectly matches your undertone and shade. Understand?
Okay, so what is the sweet spot for picking up the right lipliner? It should be slightly deeper than your natural lip colour. For lipstick? It should be lighter or softer than your liner. Don’t make the mistake of buying both liner and lipstick in the same colour, otherwise you’ll lose that juicy lip effect.
This one combo never fails- A slightly deeper liner+ a creamy nude lipstick and a clear or soft gloss in the centre. When applying gloss, your main focus is to be in the centre (don’t apply full lip gloss).
The mistake I made, and I know many will too, is that they copy the exact shade from the internet and consider it their own shade. So the combo looks good on the influencer doesn’t mean it would work the same for you.
14. Don’t Matte-ify Your Lips
Bestie, cool down. Mattifying lips basically means removing all shine and moisture from the surface. And the moment lips lose shine, they automatically start looking flatter and less plump. Here’s the truth you need to hear- juicy lips are not just about size. They’re about hydration, softness, and light reflection.
Mattifying your lips generally makes even a beautiful lip shade dull. Okay, now here I don’t mean to say that matte lips are bad, not at all, but if your goal is that juicy-looking plump, then yes, it is against the vibe.
I don’t know if you noticed it or not, but makeup artists rarely go with full matte lips until the client wants. They always prefer creamy, satin, or mimic natural lips.
15. Highlight The Cupid’s Bow
This is one of those tiny make-up tricks that looks so small but changes the whole lip vibe instantly. What was that exactly? Highlighting the cupid’s bow basically draws light to the highest point of your lips. This is such an effortless hack, but it gave the most noticeable effect.
What to do is take any highlighter and dap it on the upper bow of the lips, yes, that upper centre part. It works even better when you pair it with gloss, giving a full 3D lip effect (not joking, you can try).
It genuinely gives me my lips but a better kind of feel.
