We all experience that there is one kind of friend who always smells too good to forget. I used to be so jealous! Because I’ll have to spray my favourite perfume like ten times, and after an hour poof gone? Like I’ve never applied.

It was so frustrating! But after a ton of trial and error (and maybe a little too much time spent researching beauty hacks), I finally figured it out. And let me tell you, it is a total game-changer.

Achieving a perfect all-day fresh scent, especially if you have a busy schedule, is very, very difficult. I can relate. So we are diving into the secrets of smelling incredible 24/7.

20 Mindblowing Secrets To Smell Good And Amazing All Day Long.

1. Complete Daily Intake Of Water

What if I told you the ultimate secret to smelling good like an absolute snack? I’m talking about water. Yes, plain H2O! It sounds simple or might be boring to you, but it is a natural detox system for your body. If you want to level up your smelling game, you need to start from this!

Aim for at least 8 glasses of water a day. I know, I know, sometimes drinking that much feels like a full-time job! The goal is not to chug the whole glass of water at once; you can also complete the requirement sip by sip, so it won’t feel heavy.

Sometimes plain water feels very boring, so I replace it with my own DIY detox drink. Simply cut up fresh, juicy strawberries, kiwi, lemon, and cucumber and let them infuse in water. It’s so yummy, and knowing that every sip is working on my skin to stay clean and my body smells amazing.

2. Cleanliness Is Key to Feeling Your Best

I’m about to let you in on a little secret. The flashiest bottle of perfume is just a cherry on top. The actual foundation of smelling good starts with basic hygiene. And once you nail this, you’ll end up smelling like a literal dream.

I’m going to tell you how to maintain a basic hygiene routine because it says a lot about you. Here’s the secret sauce.

  • The double cleanse (But for your body!)- We often limit the double cleanse to our face only, but it is also important for our body. First, go with a daily antibacterial soap that kills all the bacteria, then follow it with your favourite scented, moisturising body wash. I’m telling ya, this is the secret.
  • Cold water bath- I know, I know, a hot shower feels amazing and comforting, but it is an open invitation for sweat and oils. Even a 60-second cold bath wakes up your skin and gives you a fresh feeling that hot water lacks.
  • Prevent foot smell- This is the secret that nobody talks about. Actual bad bacteria live between your toes, which makes your feet and shoes smell horrible. Physically cleaning foot with soap and scrubbing is way too important to prevent foot smell.

3. Moisturise Your Whole Body

You hop out of the shower, using your favourite scented body wash, but who will lock that smell? This is the golden window! When you apply your body lotion right after a shower, you are giving intense hydration to your body, and that is so freakin satisfying.

How To Nail The Routine

  • Always pat dry- After getting out of the shower, gently pat yourself dry with a towel. Many of us make the mistake of rubbing too harshly with a towel after coming out. Please don’t do this.
  • Apply your favourite butter lotion- Slather on your favourite scented body butter or cream, and give yourself a gentle massage. Sounds good, right?
  • Apply body oil- If you really want to level up, apply body oil over your lotion. This seals everything you have applied and leaves that healthy glow. That’s pretty good.
  • Finish with the fragrance- Now, spray your perfume on those pulse points. Because why not? Now, tell me, after following this much juicy routine, how you will not end up smelling like heaven?

4. Get More Wear Out of Your Fragrance

What if a little spritz of perfume you apply in the morning is still there at night? Ahh dream! But that moment is so heartbreaking when the fragrance fades too fast, literally, I’m tired of this.

I’ve been experimenting with some literal hacks that will make your perfume last forever-

  • Apply Vaseline to pulse points before perfume– Vaseline is a sticky gel, so when you apply something sticky, it is very sure to hold the scent longer (actually longer than before).
  • Don’t rub your fragrance- This is the mistake almost everyone makes! Rubbing perfume on wrists can break down the top notes of scent (which is the best part of fragrance). Always pat it dry, or let it air dry, babe.
  • Always apply on pulse points- I never knew this until I came across this tip that perfume always gets activated by the body’s heat, and pulse points are actually those heat points where perfume stays longer than usual.

5. Add a Lovely Scent to Your Hair

Hairs also play a powerful role in smelling good. Hairs are the most attractive part when it comes to smelling good, and hair actually holds scent longer than skin. Anyone can apply perfume and make themselves smell good, but no one usually thinks of hair smelling good! But it matters a lot.

Here are a few tips to make your hair smell good-

  • Hair exfoliation- Hair is the bed of all dirt and gunk, which is actually very smelly and unhygienic. Once, my hairstylist told me that the right way to wash our hair is to clean our scalp first. If your scalp is happy, your hair will too! And the best way to fully clean your scalp is to exfoliate it and then wash it. Even some shampoos now have exfoliant ingredients, which is the best. So choose the right one and make your hair flip smell like vanilla.
  • Add a few drops of scented oil to hair- Double up your hair game by adding a few drops of scented oil or serum to your hair. This also makes your hair glossy and healthier than ever.
  • Spray your favourite perfume on a hairbrush- Perfume directly on hair can be harsh, as perfume involves alcohol, which can make hair dry and rough, which is not good to see. So, instead of applying it directly, spray it on a hairbrush first and then comb, Yum!
  • Hair mist- Hair mists are specially designed for hair, which are alcohol free and never dry out your hair. This is a must try.

6. Stay Minty Fresh All Day

How does interacting with someone who smells good only until she starts talking and laughing? Honestly, it’s such a buzzkill! The whole personality of that person immediately drops just because they didn’t pay attention to their mouth smell.

But don’t worry, I’m here to tell you how to maintain a fresh breath, so you don’t have to think before interacting with someone.

Tongue cleaning is way too important! If you haven’t started yet, you should begin now. You didn’t know how much buildup your tongue carries for days or maybe months. A dirty tongue is the reason for bad smell in 99% of people. You need a tongue scraper every morning to scrape off the white buildup on your tongue, and rest, you’ll feel a big difference yourself.

My Pro tip- I never leave my house without packing a packet of mints in my bag, it is a major flex for me and saves me a lot from embarrassing moments.

Another, when I’m at dinner or some sort of public gathering, I avoid eating something that includes onion and garlic, as they have super strong flavours, and it can reflect when you are talking with someone.

7. Wash Your Hair Often

Are you also following a once or twice a week hair wash routine? I’m telling you are making a big mistake. I know washing hair is more important for maintaining hygiene, but it is also definitely for smelling good, because dirt, sweat, buildup, and oils can make your hair smell horrible and cause itching and irritation.

I had very bad dandruff; no matter what I used, the buildup stuck there forever. My dermatologist asked me to wash my hair every single day or every other day if possible. From that day to today, I haven’t gone back to my old routine because the way my hair feels now is unreal. It not only makes my hair soft, manageable, but also fresh to feel and look and smell good, obviously.

  • Focus on the scalp only- The main goal should be to clean the scalp, not the length. Always start with the roots to kill the bacteria and gunk. Once it is out, all things will be sorted.

8. What You Eat Can Influence How You Smell

Your diet can also affect the way you smell. Eating a healthy diet can change the way you smell. Include plenty of healthy fruits and vegetables in your diet, which are rich in antioxidants, they help flush out those nasty toxins that cause body odor.

And once you start observing that it is true that you smell what you eat. Who doesn’t want to smell like a blueberry? God has gifted us amazing foods, so take advantage of them.

9. Take Care Of Your Armpits

If you are looking for a literal way to remove body odor, start with this. This is the root. You know, our armpits produce so much heat, whether it is winter or summer, and that sweat is kind of too smelly also. Many store-bought deodorants can help with this, but they are just temporary fixes.

Exfoliating is oh-so important for the underarms to keep that area clean and bacteria-free. For exfoliating, you can either use an exfoliating toner or a scrubbing routine.

But I’m currently obsessed with using a gentle glycolic acid toner from The Ordinary. Take the help of a cotton pad to evenly spread it, and at night is the best time for this. This works 10 times better than my deodorant.

10. Switch Your Towels Regularly

This is the most underrated tip on how to smell amazing. We take care of our clothes, for our face, for our body, but do we take care of our towels? No, no one even thinks of that. Towels remain damp after use for hours, which is quietly building bacteria and a musty smell without you even knowing.

And then the next day, you are using it to clean your face, hands, and body, and wondering why you are smelling weird. Sometimes the problem is in your towel, not in your hygiene. Make sure you hang them out to dry completely and replace them with new ones regularly.

11. Keep A Mini Perfume In Your Bag

Sometimes, in all that morning rush and mess of leaving the house, we might forget to apply perfume, even I do this many times until I realised I can keep a small travel-friendly perfume with me so that I can apply it anywhere.

And it saves me a lot from situations when I miss applying perfume. Even if I have to go for a meeting, or to grab a coffee, or a friend meetup after work, I don’t have to think about myself if I’m looking good or not. Perfume instantly boosts your confidence and makes you feel your best.

That’s why I prefer to carry mini perfume bottles (not big ones, they’ll feel so heavy to carry). If you don’t have your perfume in a smaller bottle, then here is a set of 4 Refillable perfume bottles that are going to make your life easier. You just have to transfer your favourite scent into a smaller quantity. And spritz spritz all the way…

12. Brush And Floss Your Teeth

Brushing and flossing your teeth twice a day is non-negotiable for keeping your breath fresh and smile sparkling. Pay attention to your mouth hygiene, especially after meals, and check for any food particles left on your mouth or teeth.

Gargling with plain water after a meal is the best way to make sure there is no residue left. Also, you can use high-quality mouthwashes available in the market. It’s like a cherry on top that can make your breath feel fresh for hours. It’s an absolute secret for a charming smile and smelling good.

13. Choose Your Signature Scent

Are you making this mistake by choosing whatever is currently trending on the internet? If you are doing this, then you cannot ever smell memorable; you always smell random and not something people should remember.

I used to be the person who had twelve different perfumes and chose the best according to my mood. I think I’m doing well, but big mistake I regret even today.

I’ve smelled $300 perfume that made me want to sneeze! like seriously, and $40 oils that made me feel like a goddess. So expensive here is not a thing, definitely.

How To Choose One

  • Choose your scent by taking time at the perfume shop, test it wisely, or just buy a sample, wear it for 2-3 days, and then make a decision whether you want it or not.
  • Understand the families of perfume. Either you want to smell like a fresh garden, or a cozy, woody, spicy, or something fresh and aquatic. Identify your favourite family and then proceed to the next step.
  • A perfume on highly moisturized skin works way better than a perfume on naked skin. Apply a vanilla or musk oil as a base before applying perfume. It made you smell like official dessert, and yes, trust the process.

14. Exfoliate to Help Fragrance Last Longer

Exfoliation is another way you can ensure that your scent stays longer on your skin. Exfoliation involves methods like scrubbing and chemical exfoliants (which are damn good ways if you want smooth-textured skin).

Exfoliation helps remove dead skin from your body, which can block your way to smelling good. Scrubbing once or twice a week, or using chemical exfoliants (such as AHAs or BHAs), can help restore clear, clean skin.

When your skin is clear, every scent, no matter the price, will stay good if you layer it properly.

15. Always Sleep In a Fresh Pair

If you want to wake up like an absolute diva who smells so good when we wake up from sleep, this is a to-do task for you. No one sleeps with a new pair every night. But choosing the right fabric and always switching to a clean pair is so, so necessary for a clean girl.

Waking up with a healthy glow and smelling good is one thing every girl needs, but we often think it needs time, money, and a million products, but it does not.

Take a shower at night if you have time only, then apply light, body mist, or a vanilla-rich lotion, and grab your fresh PJs. Opt for cotton or silk, which are breathable fabrics that don’t hold body odor for long.

And then you will feel like a princess the next morning, the smell, the freshness, makes you feel good about yourself all day.

16. Mist Your Sheets With Perfume

Here is the simplest secret: you spend an absolute 1/3 of your life on your bed, cleaning it and making it smell good should be on your priority list!

Isn’t it a good moment when you wake up smelling like an absolute princess? I’m dying for it. So, I started spraying my bedsheets, and it is my best secret so far (don’t wanna tell anybody, but can’t resist telling you).

Every morning after making my bed, I spritz fresh mist on my sheet, giving me comfort and making my bedroom feel like a five-star hotel. Don’t soak only on one spot, otherwise you’ll end up drowning your sheet in perfume. Spray it from like 12 inches above the bed and let it infuse naturally.

Leave the bed empty for 10-15 minutes to fully settle it. Trust me, there is nothing more elite than waking up already smelling like a dream.

17. Choose Fabrics That Hold Scent

Choosing your signature scent is only half the battle. You can drop a small fortune on a bottle of Maison Francis Kurkdijan, but if you’re spraying it onto the wrong materials, no one can do anything.

If you really want something like all day long, you need something to cling to, and some fabrics are just much better hosts than others. And natural fabrics work way better here.

Natural fabrics are porous, which hold scent for way longer than any other fabric. Fabrics like silk, cotton, and linen are breathable and just cool enough. In contrast, synthetic fabrics like polyester, nylon, and acrylic don’t actually absorb liquid; they repel it.

If you want to work on the longevity of the scent, start opting for natural fabrics, you’ll feel the big difference, trust me.

18. Invest In Good Quality Perfume Over Quantity

I know you can buy a beauty aisle of 30 different perfumes for each day of the month that cost $5 each, but you are making a big mistake. When it comes to signature scent, more is definitely not more.

You want quality, babe. Cheaper, mass-produced body sprays are usually packed with alcohol and actually very little oils, which is why they’re gone in the matter of 1-2 hours (or even less).

Always go for higher-quality perfumes, which have a higher oil concentration and are formulated more wisely. Their scent is so concentrated that a bottle can easily last you a year or more. So no unnecessary spending. Yikes!

19. Carry Yourself With Confidence

Have you ever noticed how some people just walk into a room, and they radiate? Something they have in their aura that makes you feel mesmerized by. Maybe there is a science behind it that when a person is confident, people are naturally drawn closer to them.

What’s the point of spending too much on perfumes and not having the confidence to own them? You’ve gotta own the space to let that perfume breathe.

Confidence is the ultimate dupe for high-end, pricey perfumes. So, next time you’re getting ready, don’t just reach for your signature scent, reach for your inner sparkle too. That’s the best.

That’s it today, now go out there and smell like the absolute icon you are!
