How To Get Rid Of Eye Bags Fast With 15 Effective Tips That Work

You know I have gone through those days when people stopped me, especially to ask how I was doing, and asking me like “Did I sleep well, all things okay?” and all this because of those creepy, puffy shadows under the eyes. Yep, those eye bags (I hate them).

I always wondered why they always show up on the important days. Like they have a radar for bad timing, haha.

I have dealt with stubborn under eye bags for years and have tried everything the internet told me to try. If I had to say any of them works? Yes, some work so well, but most of them didn’t, and some were genuinely ridiculous.

That’s why I’m here, and this blog is all about the things I try and work perfectly for me to get rid of eye bags. They not only show up on your face but also make you look tired, dull, or even older in the worst circumstances. But not from now on, yes promise,

Now listen, you won’t believe it, like ever, but I have to burst this myth that EYE BAGS ARE NOT JUST A SLEEP PROBLEM. And it may be genetics, like (thanks to our parents).

The good news? You won’t have to live permanently with them, like how? Wait till the end. If you are also tired of hiding them under concealers or filters ( as I am), now is the time to say bye to those. Let’s dig in.

Can I Actually Get Rid Of Eye Bags?

Yes, most of the time, but it also depends on various factors, like checking if they are genetic or not and checking on your sleep schedules.

Why Do Under-Eye Bags Show Up?

They are not always genetic. They have multiple reasons, and your habits are worsening the situation. Many people misunderstood eye bags to be puffy eyes, but make it clear that puffy eyes are like temporary swelling for a very short period of time, and often go down in a few hours easily.

But eye bags are fat deposits under eye, and are more stubborn (chill, not permanent). And it needs care and effort. Let’s make it.

How To Get Rid Of Eye Bags Now?

1. Ice The Eyes

This has to be no. 1 on this list because the way it works for me is insane, like seriously. I used this every single morning to reduce any puffiness or swelling under my eyes that makes eye bags look more prominent.

The easiest way to do it is to put 2 metal spoons in the freezer the night before. In the morning, take them out and press them gently against your under eye area for about a minute or get yourself an ice roller you can keep in the fridge and roll it gently under the eye area, that’s what I do every morning.

Or simply wrap the ice in a soft cotton cloth and gently press on the eyes for like 20-30 seconds and a maximum of 1 minute. Don’t put it directly to the naked eye, and don’t overdo it, please. It is one of the easiest, yet cheapest options to reduce the appearance of eye bags. Yet it is not that effective in removing them completely.

2. Give A Massage To Your Eye Area

This is one of the underrated tips, but actually one of the powerful ones. Eye bags can be dramatic sometimes, but here’s the gag- sometimes you don’t need expensive treatments because that’s where a 30-second eye massage comes in and shocks all of us.

Use your fingers, commonly, I use my ring finger. Gently tap from the inner corner to the outer or gently glide it upward. Do this for like 30 seconds for 3-4 times each day.

Don’t do it dry. Always use the oil so that it glides smoothly. Not all oils are created equal for the eye area, and using the wrong one can cause milia (those tiny white bumps under the skin). We don’t want to create another problem, so let’s be smart about this.

Best Oils For Under-Eye Massage

A) Coconut Oil

If you are a beginner, coconut oil is best suited for you. It is super hydrating and works best for all skin types. It deeply nourishes the area under the eye.

Use it a little like a tiny dot, even that is more than enough. Don’t use it a lot, otherwise you’ll end up looking like a greasy potato, haha.

B) Jojoba Oil

If you want a very gentle option, this one is best. It works best for sensitive skin. I myself use this and it absorbs beautifully, and a great point that it is non-comedogenic. If you can only get one oil for this, get jojoba. Trust me on this one!

It doesn’t clog your pores, hence a great option for acne-prone skin.

3. Rose Water Pads

Oh ya! How can I forget rosewater? This is one of my absolute favourite multipurpose skincare ingredients and it works beautifully for eye bags too.

Rose water has naturally calming properties which help reduce swelling, calm redness and make skin super firm.

Soak two cotton pads in the rose water. If the rose water is chilled and straight out of a fridge, then greatt. Place the cotton pads upon your eyes for like 10 minutes. I personally prefer to do it at night before sleep.

Plus, rose water has zero side effects and it only gives good things to your skin. If you haven’t tried it yet, go try it. It is not that expensive also and does SO many great jobs and one of my all time skincare heros, uhhmm.

4. Green Tea Bags

Okay, so you make yourself a cup of green tea, you drink it, and then end of throwing the used tea bags away, stop! you can actually use them to treat your eye bags, Shocked? Hehe.

Place them over your closed eyes for ten to fifteen minutes and you will end up getting a big chunk of benefit, that too free of cost.

Green tea has contain caffiene and a lot of antioxidant properties that work on tightening of under eye area, which makes eye bags look way less obvious. Love a good free skincare hack? haha.

5. Aloe Vera Gel Massage

Aloe is one of those ingredients that has a lot of benefits and treating the under eye is one of them. It has anti-inflammatory properties that reduce swelling, and it also helps with dark circles.

Apply a small amount of pure aloe vera gel under your eye, I said pure, not that bright green stuff from the drugstore with a hundred added ingredients. You can choose pure in its original form over market ones. Give a gentle massage with your fingers, as I said previously. Leave it for a full day, it doesn’t need to be rinsed.

Do it every morning or night consistently. It is tried and tested!

6. Drink Water Like It’s Your Job

If you have read any of my skincare posts, you already know this is coming because I say it every single time and I will never stop saying it. Water is genuinely one of the most powerful and completely free tools you have for under eye bags and the results show up faster than you think.

When you are dehydrated, it shows up on your face and the worst scenario will be prominent eye bags. Aim for at least 2-3 litres a day minimum, you will literally thank me for this!

An easy way to snag water and complete your daily requirement is to keep your water bottle with you or where you can see it 24/7.

7. Cut Down Salt & Late Night Junk

This one hurts a little to write because I love a late night snack as much as the next person. Not even kidding. If you don’t remember what you ate last night, don’t worry, your eyes have a record of it all.

They contain a high amount of sodium, and it is not even good for health. Try cutting back on salt or if you have a craving, find yourself a better option. There is always some better option and please be mindful, especially in the evenings!

8. Coffee + Honey Under Eye Mask

Coffee and honey mask this time and it actually works really well! Coffee has been in skincare DIYs for a long time now. It has caffeine, which reduces puffiness and little help to do exfoliation, and honey, I think I don’t have to tell its benefits. It is so moisturising and hydrating.

Take a bowl and mix coffee grounds and 1 tsp of honey. Mix these two good ingredients into a smooth paste. Apply it very carefully under your eye, otherwise it will go inside your eyes and we don’t need this.

Leave it for 30 minutes, then rinse it off with water. Do it twice a week as a part of your routine.

9. Use The Right Eye Cream

If you are not using an eye cream yet, what are you even doing with your life?? I am kidding, but also not really, lol. Under eye area is so delicate and difficult to target. That’s why we have eye creams which include specific ingredients to treat specific areas.

Choosing the right eye cream is so so necessary. Not all eye creams are created equally, some are just ones with pretty packaging. So make sure you choose the right one according to your concern. Here’s how

For eye bags and puffiness specifically look for eye creams with caffeine — the number one ingredient for reducing under eye puffiness. Retinol in a gentle concentration for firming and fine lines over time. Hyaluronic acid for plumping and hydration. And peptides for strengthening and tightening the area long term. Apply with your ring finger using gentle patting motions. Pat it in and let it do its job!

10. Eat Collagen Loving Foods

Here’s where the real beauty and glow begin. Collagen is so, so important for everyone’s skin health. Basically, it is a protein of the skin. It supports firm skin, bouncy skin and declines signs of ageing.

Fruits like oranges, strawberries, kiwi, lemon, berries, and pineapple are rich in Vitamin C, are basically ones that supports skin health. These are literally glow fruits.

Other than these green leafy vegetables, egg, fish, and bone broth work best even more. So, load up your plate with these loving foods and your mum will also be happy seeing you because mine was lol!

What To Skip If You Want Fast Results

1. Sleeping In Makeup

Ohhh, it’s a worst ever nightmare for your under-eye bags. Makeup left whole night can trigger your delicate skin under eye and can make eye bags more worse.

If you are too lazy to wash your face, then using micellar water to remove makeup is a better option. Keep a micllear water by your bed so there are no excuses!

2. Rubbing Your Eyes

Rubbing my eyes feels kinda good to me, especially when I am tired. But it is one of the worst things you can do for your eye bags. Constant rubbing that area breaks collagen slowly and makes the skin loose, and can trigger inflammation, sometimes.

And if by mistake your makeup is on, then god knows. If you ever feel an urge to rub, instead of rubbing you can gently pat that area.

3. Too Much Screen Time Before Bed

Your phone is stealing your beauty sleep, yes, literally. Do you know screen emits blue light and it is worse for your eye bags or even mental health (you don’t get good sleep).

Try to put your phone down for 30 minutes before you want to sleep. If you are working on something important, then use night mode, it helps too. Give your eyes a little rest, they deserve it.

4. Crying Too Much

Do you know, crying causes instant swelling? I know crying is very human and sometimes necessary, also.

And you then rub your eyes like it’s not even your own, and that pressure irritates the under-eye and makes swelling even worse. Crying at night is extra devil, like whyyyy, Crying doesn’t make any permanent problems in our eyes, but it temporary worsen the condition, which can create a mess.

So….Why Are Eye Bags Even There?

1. No Proper sleep

Not getting proper sleep? Because you were enjoying Netflix until late at night. Here you are doing an injustice to your eye bags. Skin under the eye is super soft and sensitive and whatever off with your routine shows up there.

Aim for getting at least 8 hours at night, and you will see the difference.

2. Too Much Screen Time

If, after all these hacks, your eye bags still show up, then you really need to change your lifestyle. Too much screen time is slowly damaging your skin tissues.

The main problem is blinking; you blink less when you are constantly watching the screen, and that makes your eyes so dry and creates shadows as eye bags. So, take breaks every 20-30 minutes and if you are reading this at midnight on your phone right now, go to sleep, I am serious, lol!

3. Not Drinking Enough Water

Your eye bags are literally thirsty and begging for water, but when you don’t drink enough water, they lose moisture and worsen the condition further.

Dryness makes you rub your eyes more, and that’s when irritation begins. This is the main cause of eye bags over time.

Not drinking water can also create many health problems, such as dry lips. And imagine your face with crepey eye bags and dry loud lips, not that horrible, nah? Just kidding. Go get yourself water now (means now).

4. Stress & Overthinking

Sometimes you don’t know that your brain is repeatedly hanging over stress and overthinking (I know, I experienced it). When your body stays tensed, it causes inflammation, which is clearly visible under your eyes.

Stress is literally worsening your condition. So, rest yourself and your mind. Stay chill, hydrated and let the magic begin there, hehe.

5. Genetics

Genetics plays a very important role in your eye bags, like when it’s literally in your DNA (you didn’t choose this, your genes did). Sometimes eye bags are not your fault (okay, thanks to your heredity).

Go and check that your parents or grandparents have eye bags, if yes, then you will be assured that it’s in your heredity. And yes, here’s the harsh truth: It cannot be removed if it is genetic, but you can still try to make some lifestyle changes, which I discussed.

If eye bags run in your family, it is not related to laziness anymore, it is biology. You can’t delete genetics, make it your flaw and stay happy, chill it out.
