In this article, we will explore some valuable tips that genuinely add some value to your life and make a noticeable difference in your appearance, I bet. I hope you will get the best results try na these!
Well, let’s dig into this…..
15 Habits to Look Younger Than Your Age
1. Drink Water Like Your Life Depends On It (Because It Does)
So so so important. If you have read any of my skincare blog you know I always talk about this, and I genuinely never stop. It is the most important, especially when it comes to skin issues.
When your body is properly hydrated, you feel so much better about your face like your skin looks more softer, smoother, and naturally glowing which is pretty enough to maintain a youthful skin.
On the other side, dehydrated skin looks dull and flat and no skincare can bring it back so start your day with two glasses of water (if it feels too much, then reach for one to start), but skipping it doesn’t make any sense. Aim for 2.5-3 litres daily. I know it’s difficult to start, but nothing is impossible here. Here are incredible ways you can manage completing your daily requirement-
2. Sunscreen Every Single Morning
Can I say this enough? Probably not because if there is one single thing from this list that makes the biggest difference to how to look young, it is the one, sunscreen. UV damage is the number one cause of skin aging, wrinkles, dark spots, and loss of elasticity and it contributes to the majority of skin-related concerns.
Make sure you choose a good SPF 50 sunscreen and apply it daily in generous areas that are exposed in sun, like face, body, neck and hands. Sunscreens have come a long way there are lightweight gel textures, tinted formulas that work as makeup base and invisible sprays also, so dear you don’t have any excuse.
Choose what you prefer and if you are avoiding it because it feels greasy or leave white cast, you have an option out there that you’ll actually enjoy putting on.
CeraVe 100% Mineral Sunscreen SPF 50 is my all good use used sunscreen. It is a 100% mineral sunscreen and feels so hydrating because it contains ceramides and hyaluronic acid. Can try on my suggestion.
3. Moisturize Twice A Day
Half of my life I was thinking moisturizer was optional because I’m using sunscreen, so it feels fine to leave moisturizer, but it is not other than that, it was the most important in your skincare routine.
Moisturizing your skin regularly is essential to maintaining a smooth, supple texture, especially for mature skin. For a real anti-aging boost, look for ingredients like ceramides, collagen, and peptides. These ingredients give your skin a boost of hydration and support firmness over time.
Use a good amount of moisturizer during the day and take a little more to apply at night. Because night is the time your skin will repair and keeping skin moisturized during this period will give you a glow boost in the morning.
4. Add Retinol To Your Nighttime Routine
The skincare world is full of ingredients that make big promises and many new experimental ingredients. Most of them are fine, but a few of them are genuinely good. And there is one inside all of it, retinol. The single most clinically studied and genuinely transformative ingredient in skincare.
Retinol speeds up the process of collagen production, fading hyperpigmentation, smoothing fine lines and improving overall skin texture, that’s why it is one of the most loved ingredients and currently trending all over the internet.
One thing to keep in mind is to always start slow in terms of quantity. In the initial stage, use it only 2-3 times a week because if you overuse it, it can irritate your skin. A pea-sized amount is more than enough for an entire face, and follow with a generous amount of moisturizer, and oh god! results. This is my top anti-aging skincare recommendation without any question.
5. Cut Back On Sugar
I know I know your favourite food has a lot of sugar in it, I’m not here to take away your joy. I love chocolates, but you should also be aware of what sugar is doing from the inside. Sugar spikes up your insulin levels and make skin lose elasticity and glow.
My mum always used to say that what you eat shows up on your skin, so cutting back on sugar is your best bet if you want to make it. Okay, I mean, I’m not saying give up on your brownie or icecream but make sure you consume it in that amount your skin can actually handle.
Some things you can actually try, start reading labels because sugar is present in everything, whether it is bread, mayo, sauce or flavoured yogurts. If the label sugar high sugar content then please it is good for you to leave it on the shelf. Sugar is ageing you quietly every single day.
I love herbal fruit teas served cold as a soft drink replacement. It contains zero sugar. Small swaps like these make cutting back so much easier and actually enjoyable, I think.
6. Protect The Skin Around The Eyes
The skin around your eyes is actually the thinnest and most delicate skin on your entire face. And also, ageing loves to come here first. Fine lines, puffiness, dark circles, eye bags, all of it shows here only. So if you are struggling with it and want to know how to make the eye area firm, then start using an eye cream if you haven’t already.
Eye creams are specially designed for the area under the eye to actually address the issue with the right ingredients. Apply a pea-sized amount of eye cream at night on both of your eyes, at first it might not look like it is working, but in the long run, you will actually feel it.
7. Load Up Your Plate With Antioxidants
My mum always used to say that what you eat is how you look. For a long time, I used to want to treat my face with skincare only because my typical ass doesn’t believe that eating well improves skin. Lol! Okay, but I learned it the hard way.
Foods that are rich in antioxidants, such as blueberries, leafy greens, tomatoes, and red peppers, are incredible for your skin. They reduce inflammation, support the skin’s lipid barrier, and support collagen production, which is everything when it comes to keeping skin firm and youthful.
So load up your plate with some yummy antioxidants that god has given us.
8. Never Sleep With Makeup On
Okay, hands up who has done this? Gone out and had a long night, come home exhausted and gone straight to bed with a full face of foundation and mascara still on? Yeah! Me too.
Do you really know what it is doing to your skin? Hell ya! More blunders. All day you are hanging out with air, pollution, dust and whatnot! Cleansing after reaching home is so necessary to make sure there is all the dirt and dust out of your face, and it is squeaky clean.
If you can manage a full cleanse, amazing! A full cleanse involves oil cleansing/micellar water, but if not, then even one clean with wipes would do better things for you.
9. Try Facial Massage
Facial massage is the best way you can start specially if you are over 40. Giving yourself a good facial massage gives you a boost of glow as it increases blood flow and makes sure more oxygen reaches your skin.
So how do you actually do it? You do not need a professional or a fancy appointment. You only need any oil you trust on your palms, give a good massage with your fingertips in different directions. Here I linked up the video you can see and practice.
And if you want to take it one step ahead, use a gua sha tool or a jade roller, it can make the whole thing much more effective. Add it to your nighttime routine, it is the best time to give yourself a facial massage.
10. Keep Your Posture Straight
Ever saw a beautiful, confident woman walking with a hunched back? I’m sure that’s not very youthful to see. Your posture says a lot about your age and how confident you are.
And a straight, upright posture genuinely makes you appear younger, taller, and slimmer for a good reason. Make sure you always point to sit and stand straight even if you are not in front of people. It makes you instantly look more attractive, youthful and wealthy, and yes, it also protects your one and only spine, lol!
11. Use Niacinamide For Bright Even Skin
If you are not using niacinamide yet, then please add it to your routine immediately. Like today. Because ageing can make all the dark spots, fine lines, and uneven skin tones, even more visible, like 3x. And niacinamide addresses all of these things, giving you a charm on your skin.
It works for all skin types, and it is so easy to start. Just add a niacinamide serum to your routine, at first go for a lower concentration, then move towards a higher one based on whether it suits you or not.
After using cleaser and toner, use this, then followed by a moisturiser and sunscreen. I’m so grateful that I’ve added niacinamide to my routine, as at least there is one ingredient I can fully rely on and trust.
12. Keep Your Hair Healthy And Styled
Get your hair out of your way? Oh no, I mean your hair is actually one of the biggest contributors to how young or old you appear and most people underestimate this completely.
Compare a woman with dry, frizzy and rough hair with a woman with healthy, shiny hair. You’re probably gonna like the second one as it looks more outstanding, youthful than the other one.
Finding the right products for your specific hair is so important. Know what your hair needs, don’t just go with what is best-selling or recently trending. A good nourishing shampoo and mask is to die for. Don’t skip a mask like ever. Avoid heat styling a lot as it can cause dullness and breakage of your hair strands, making them lifeless.
Also, please look at your haircut, considering them up because they can add a greattt volume to your hair and add frame to your face, like anyways they are going to look good. Haircut works as the most underrated anti-aging tool. Go find yourself a stylist, have a clear conversation with him about what goes on your face and just go for it.
WHAT I LOVE RIGHT NOW
Olaplex No.3 Hair Perfector, I have been using this for months and oh god it makes hair so soft, shiny, and genuinely healthier over time. It repairs damage from the inside out and the difference is clearly there. Moroccanoil Treatment as a finishing serum for that healthy shine that immediately makes hair look more youthful and polished. Both are worth every single penny.
13. Exercise To Keep Your Glow Young
I am definitely not a workout person, I just can’t, lol. But I have found out the genuinely easiest way to work out, which genuinely changes your appearance. Studies have found that people who exercise regularly have cells that biologically look up to 9 years younger than almost all people of the same age. 9 years younger? I nearly fell out of my chair reading out that lol!
A ten-minute dance workout, because these smaller steps are better than bigger ones, like buying gym subscriptions, anyway, start with this, you can easily do at home. Even a ten-minute walk you can go for.
If you don’t know from where to start, start watching on YouTube. I started doing ten-minute Pamela Reif workouts three months ago, and oh god, the glow it gives is real. Just start somewhere small and stay consistent with it!
14. Get Serious About Sleep
Can I say this enough? We all know how important it is but how many of us actually prioritise it? I know I definitely did not for years. Late-night sleep, early morning wakeups, six hours of sleep, even if I was lucky.
You know, while you sleep, your body is actually doing good stuff for you, like it rebuilds collagen, regenerates tissues and it only happens when you take a good 8-9 hours of sleep at the right time.
You know you have grown up when you have to actually schedule your sleep, lol, but do it. So what does good sleep actually look like and how do you get more of it? Because I know it is easy to say get eight hours and harder to actually make that happen when life is busy and your phone is right there.
First, put your phone way too far away before sleep because it is the only factor we are not getting full sleep. Next, make the room dark, so it gives you an indicator that yaa go to sleep.
15. Smile More And Stress Less
You just cannot look youthful if you are carrying stress all over your face and in your body. You just cannot. But a genuine smile is one of the most instantly youthful things a face can do. It brightens up your whole face and makes you just vibrant and happy.
So, how do you actually stress less in a world that is constantly throwing things at you?
Move your body, as I previously said, it is so important to feel youthful with your body and to be happy.
Getting off social media was another huge one. Constant comparison, seeing someone’s perfect life, can make you feel low for no reason.
Doing things that make you laugh and happy for a good reason, like buying yourself a flower, or getting your nails done. Actually, I have written a whole blog post on How To Get Out Of A Bad Mood Fast As A Girl And Feel Better. So you can check here.
