How I Fix Dry Makeup Instantly — What I Do Instead Of Restarting My Makeup
If there is just one thing that has genuinely tested my patience more than anything else in this world, it is seeing my foundation dry, cakey like I had applied a face mask. And I’m sure it is not only my problem that’s why you are also here.
On a very bad scenerio it can look like my foundation cracked into my smile lines and powder blush looking so dry like a patch.
And above that, now I only have two solutions, either I would wipe everything off and start doing the whole base and makeup from scratch but that would only be possible if I have time.
For people like me who are always always ready on time, not like 15 minutes early haven’t left with this solution, so I only have one solution left to carry that cakey look makeup but I refuse to accept it either!
So my crazy ass is figuring out on the internet how to fix dry, cakey makeup under 5 minutes but the search results are nothing, they’re all discussing the skincare or prepping the skin. No one is literally telling how to fix the blunder now.
But your sister has a dying urge to find out something that geniuenly help me and other girls like me who are ruining their mood before going out just because of their makeup. Makes so much sense right?
In this blog, I am going to share the tips that work instantly to make your base look flawless again so you won’t have to reinvest your time and products doing it again.
If it would work then I know my girlies would be more than happy and probably me also because it is such a life saver tip anyone can give.
About my skin — I have combination skin which means my skin is dry in certain areas especially around my nose and mouth. My T zone can get oily but the rest of my face dries out pretty fast especially in air conditioned spaces and in winter. So dry cakey makeup has genuinely been my lifelong struggle and these tips come from years of actually dealing with it!
My Go-To Tricks To Fix Dry Makeup Instantly And Save My Base
Fix #1: Buff Away Excess Powder With A Fluffy Brush
The very first thing I do whenever my makeup starts looking dry, before doing anything else (even crying) haha. First, you need to lift the excess powder layer from your skin. What it does is it redistributes all the excess powder in other areas of the face rather than all sitting in one place.
I use the biggest fluffiest powder brush I own and buff it all over my face in circular motions with a very light hand. I usually work on spots like under the eyes, around the mouth and smile lines and around my nose because those are the places where powder loves to settle and make everything look textured. And when I say softly, I mean way SOFTLY, not like aggressively scrubbing your face like trying to clean something off a wall, lol.
With the matter of 2 minutes, all heavy patches smooth down and the base looks much more blended. God can it be easier honestly!
I believed that more powder setting means more makeup longetivity but now I realise that most people are using way too much powder than they actually need especially under eyes. I know some people still love baking and if it works for you then genuinely amazing, but personally it is not for me.
I always travel with a small, fluffy powder brush specially for touch-ups and to counter the problems of dry patchy base and it has saved my makeup more times than I can even count.
Fix #2: Setting Spray + Sponge Method
If there is one technique I have to choose from this blog for my whole life, this would be this because it can add life to your makeup and nothing seems to be so good at that time. The setting spray and damp sponge combo is so so good and I will go to bat for it every single time.
Take out your beauty blender, it should be clean which means that there is no makeup on that sponge. Run it under the water and squeeze all the water out of it and here we are with a soft moist sponge. Spritz a generous amount of setting spray directly onto the sponge (2-3 sprays usually do better for the whole face).
Now press the sponge all over the face using the dapping method (the same way you use a blender to blend the base). They’re gonna fix your base like you have done it again.
The idea behind the sponge and setting spray is that it picks all the excess product from the face and leaves everything settled onto the skin.
Choosing a good setting spray is also important. I always choose one with hydrating ingredients like glycerin or anything that claims to be dewy and hydrating works way better than matte finish setting sprays.
Fix #3: Mist Hydrating Toner/Serum
Putting something liquid on the top of the fully done makeup is not the right call for many because of the trust issues and that’s absolutely fine also.
I felt the same about it until I tried it. I think I will dissolve everything by just spraying any hydrated mist or toner and the results just shut me off. And that’s when I decided to actually write a full article on this and here it is.
Take any hydrating toner with good hydrated ingredients like one I love from d’Alba, it is going viral on internet for a good reason. Spray it upon your makeup and let it do its work. You had two option either spray only or use a spray and then a beauty blender to blend it off for a more blended result.
The hydrating ingredients in it smooth down the makeup, make fine lines less prominent and make the makeup more settled and also leave a subtle glow finish layer on the skin.
Fix #4: Press A Damp Sponge All Over Face
Let’s assume I don’t have anything, no setting spray, no toner or serum, then a simple damp sponge can do a work for you, don’t tell me now you don’t have a sponge either.
Now take out that beauty sponge and dampen it with some water and squeeze out the excess water. Press the sponge firmly and gently all over your face. It does remove any excess product on the face and make everything blended and smooth.
When makeup looks dry and cakey then it almost always means that the makeup is just sitting on the top of the skin rather than blended with the skin and damp beauty sponge works here to make it look more natural and flawless.
